Between 10 and 15 percent of newborn babies get colic when they are developing usually between the ages of zero months and nine. Colic is a horrible condition for parents as well as baby to deal with.
The exact cause of colic has never been agreed upon but there are ways of helping your baby during this difficult time.
Colic as you probably already know is very discomforting for a baby and lead them to be inconsolable for hours at a time. This in turn leads to very stressful situations for parents but it is important that parents remember that what their baby is going through isn’t their fault and all they can do is try some of the methods below to try and ease the discomfort for their baby ;
- Trying lightly rubbing or winding your baby on its back firstly then the stomach.
- Place your baby stomach to stomach with yourself. The heat helps movement in the babies stomach. Dads stomach is better for this as it will be warm and generally bigger.
- You can try giving your baby if old enough gripe water, this can help the baby produce a burp that will ease the trapped wind and in some cases completly put the baby at ease.
